This specimen was lot 70629 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/4 Noble, ND (1356-61). Edward III (1327-77). PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. Fourth coinage, pre-treaty period. Cross mintmark, tight flan. Fully struck. EX: Seaby, August 1976." The noble was introduced by Edward III as part of a monetary reform and was tariffed at eighty pence (6 shillings 8 pence) and was the first gold coin to circulate in several centuries.
