This specimen was lot 41276 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, August 2026), where it sold for $1,952. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Anglo-Saxon. Kings of All England. Penny, ND (ca. 1040-42). Thetford Mint; Leofwine, moneyer. Harthacnut. PCGS AU-55. Arm and Scepter (BMC xvii) type. A fairly crisply struck example of the type, this lightly circulated specimen offers alluring deep gray toning." Harthacnut was a son of Cnut the Great who spent most of his short reign in Denmark. He was succeeded in 1042 by his half brother, Edward the Confessor.
