The first specimen was lot 50978 in Heritage sale 425 (New York, January 2007). It was struck in Mexico City for El Salvador, along with a gold 20 colones, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the conquest of El Salvador by the Spanish. It also marked the resumption of silver coinage in El Salvador, suspended since 1914. This type has always been expensive as most survivors are in high grade.
