Egypt AH 1171(9) 1 zeri mahbub
This coin is a gold 1 zeri mahbub, struck during the reign of Mustafa III (1757-1774 AD). The date AH 1171 year 9 translates to 1765 AD. During this period, coins minted in Egypt were very similar in appearance to those struck in other parts of the Ottoman Empire. The obverse features the royal cypher of the sultan.
This specimen was lot 13165 in the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357 by Heritage Auctions. It sold on Sept 9, 2004 for $575. The catalog description noted, "Mustafa III gold Zeri Mahbub 1171/9 = 1179AH (1765), KM107, NP-625 (the same illustration.) Superb brilliant UNC, just a fabulous coin with dazzling mint luster and razor sharp details. This is easily the finest early Egyptian coin I have ever seen! Very scarce type without the tughra. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
