This specimen was lot 1540 in Jean Elsen sale 108 (Brussels, March 2011) where it sold for 360 euros (about US$594 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"EGYPT, Kingdom, Farouk I (AH 1355-1372/AD 1936-1952), AV 100 piastres, 1938, Royal wedding. Extremely Fine - Uncirculated Mint State."
King Farouk, best known to numismatists for his onetime ownership of such American rarities as an 1804 dollar and a 1913 liberty head nickel, ruled 1936-52 before being ousted in a coup by a group of army officers which included Gamal Nasser.
Reported Mintage: 5,000.
Specification: 8.5 g, 0.875 fine gold, .239 troy oz AGW.
