Sincona sale 90, lot 1723

This specimen was lot 1723 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 8,000 CHF (about US$10,571 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Eggenberg, Herzogtum, Johann Anton, 1634-1649. Taler 1643, Krumau. Sehr selten, besonders dieser Jahrgang. Gutes sehr schön. Feine Patina. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (Austrian states, duchy of Eggenberg, John Anton, 1634-49, thaler of 1643, Krumau mint. Very rare, especially this year, Good very fine, Nicely toned, Minor flan flaw.)"

This coin was minted in 1642-44 for the obscure Austrian family of Eggenberg. This type is rare, like all the issues from this locale.
