Sincona sale 90, lot 1721

This specimen was lot 1721 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 9,500 CHF (about US$12,750 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Eggenberg, Herzogtum, Johann Anton, 1634-1649. Taler 1638, unbekannte Münzstätte, vermutlich Krumau. Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (Austrian states, duchy of Eggenberg, John Anton, 1634-49, thaler of 1638, unknown mint, perhaps Krumau. Very rare, Good extremely fine, Attractively toned.)"

This coin was minted in 1638 for the obscure Austrian family of Eggenberg. This type is rare, like all the issues from this locale.
