This specimen was lot 20387 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $1,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "ECUADOR. 4 Reales, 1862-GJ. One year type coin. Nice condition for this often low grade issue. A few minor surface defects. EXTREMELY FINE." It is scarce, even in low grade, but more available than the 1862-GJ 4 reales (KM 37a). All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.43 g, 0.667 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-41; Y-15; Seppa-EC-67; Carr-61.
