This specimen was lot 23737 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 1/4 Real 1843 MV-A Quito, VF30 NGC, rather crude with an uneven strike atop a granular planchet, but quite rare and certain to excite the specialist. An 'A' is barely visible on the hill below the fortress." This scarce type is listed for 1842-43 with "MV" and "MV A" both listed for 1843.
