This specimen was lot 70603 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $55. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY (EAST). 20 Mark, 1968. NGC MS-64. Struck to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Karl Marx. Concavity to obverse of planchet allows for well defined bust. Well struck with slightly russet toning. From the Trebuchet Collection." This standard was used for several commemoratives issued 1966-90. A number of copper-nickel types were also issued for circulation.

Specification: 20.9 g, 0.800 fine silver, .534 troy oz ASW, edge lettered 20 MARK.

Recorded Mintage: 100,000 plus a few proofs.
