Dominican Republic 1990 100 pesos
This specimen was lot 30434 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $8,812.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Proof 100 Pesos 1990 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. A most impressive 5 ounce gold coin commemorating the 500th Anniversary of the Discovery and Evangelization of America with an illustrative design featuring a group of men constructing a stockade. The highly reflective fields are like endlessly deep pools of water adding instant drama to the coin's raised and deeply cameoed devices. Nearly perfect and flashy with a mintage of only 50 pieces." This series of silver and gold NCLT's struck for the 500th anniversary ran 1989-92 and comprised four designs.
