This specimen was lot 2083 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,941 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, DEVENTER, AV dukaat, 1632. Met titel van Ferdinand II. Vz/ Staande keizer n.r. met zwaard en rijksappel. Kz/ Tekst in versierd vierkant. Zeer zeldzaam. bijna Prachtig. Very scarce, about Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1632-43 by the city of Deventer. The States General battled the cities throughout the seventeenth century, alleging that the municipal mints were addicted to short weight and debased alloy. Finally, the States succeeded in closing all the municipal mints.

Reported Mintage: unknown.
