This type was struck 1874 and 1891 only. It is part of the reform of 1874 which decimalized Danish coinage, dropping the old skillings, rigsbankdalers and fredericks d'or. This coin was struck to the same standard as the Swedish twenty-five öre and is the closest thing to a silver dime Denmark issued. The second specimen was lot 74547 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 25 Ore, 1891-CS. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IX. PCGS MS-64."
Recorded mintage: 1,214,000.
Specification: 2.42 g, 0.600 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 796.1.
