Stack's Bowers February 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74366

This specimen was lot 74366 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 10 Ore, 1884-CS. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IX. PCGS MS-64. Lustrous, satiny surfaces with the merest hints of champagne toning. Attractive." This type was struck 1874-75, 1882-91, of which only the 1889 and 1891 are common. It is part of the reform of 1874 which decimalized Danish coinage, dropping the old skillings, rigsbankdalers and fredericks d'or. This coin was struck to the same standard as the Swedish ten öre.
