This specimen was lot 22139 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $229. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 1 Speciedaler, 1846-VS. NGC XF-45. Toned." This rather scarce type was struck 1846-48 at Copenhagen. Davenport assigns the same number to all the speciedalers of Christian VIII. The lucky bidder of this lot obtained a bargain as it realized less than half of catalog.
