Denmark 1844-VS 16 rigsbankskilling
This specimen was lot 10394 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €720 (about US$751). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 16 Rigsbankskilling, 1844 FK//VS. Copenhagen Mint. Christian VIII. NGC MS-63. Very rare date in excellent condition. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." The sixteen rigsbankskilling was struck 1842 and 1844 only. The "5 SCHILLING COURANT" marks this coin's value in Schleswig-Holstein, then under Danish rule.The initials VS stood for Georg Wilhelm Svendsen, mintmaster at Copenhagen 1831-1861.
