Stack's Bowers 2022 ANA sale, lot 35388

This specimen was lot 35388 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Rigsbankdaler, 1838-WS. Frederik VI. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details." This denomination was introduced in the reform of 1813. This type was struck 1833-39 at Copenhagen (mintmaster WS) and Altona (mintmaster FF) in Schleswig-Holstein. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly scarce.

Specification: 14.44 g, 0.875 fine silver, 32 mm diameter.
