H3135-33135r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33135 in Heritage sale 3135 (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $183,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark: Delightful Rose Noble of Christian IV. Christian IV gold Rose Noble 1627 MS64 NGC, Copenhagen Mint. Mintmaster: Nicolaus Schwabe. An exceptionally exciting offering, this 1627 Rose Noble is presented here in a remarkable state of preservation, approaching the Gem tier. The surfaces are immaculately preserved and remarkably clean, displaying rich luster and shimmering eye appeal throughout. Of the utmost rarity, only three examples are known: the present specimen, an example preserved in the National Museum of Denmark, and the former Bille-Brahe specimen which was later acquired by Bruun and ultimately offered as Lot 2014 in the 1925 sale of duplicates from the Bruun Collection. With so few examples extant, opportunities to acquire this remarkable issue are exceedingly infrequent and are unlikely to arise again in the foreseeable future, making this offering certain to generate considerable interest among advanced collectors of Danish, Scandinavian, and world gold coinage. Ex. L. E. Bruun Collection (Stack's Bowers, March 2025, Lot 13105); Joh. G. Guildal Collection." This type was struck 1611-13 and 1627-29. Half rose nobles (Fr-49) exist. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but not particularly successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.99 g, 0.833 fine gold, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 8.91 g.
