Denmark 1615 mark
This specimen was lot 10175 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €292.80 (about US$338). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Mark, 1615. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC VF Details--Cleaned. Better type with round shield. From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Aug. K. Krautwald Collection (Private Sale - 1916)." This type was struck 1612-18, and this is a fairly common date. There are two mintmarks for this date: crossed scabbards (shown here) = Johan Post; shamrock = Nicolaus Schwabe. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, where this was struck, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain. One speciedaler was four mark, later raised to six mark.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 8.66 g, 0.593 fine silver, 31 mm diameter.
