This specimen was lot 10161 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €671 (about US$774). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Skilling, 1596. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC VF-30. Extremely rare date of this type without crown above the shield. "Rex Electvs" type minted before the coronation. Nice example for the type. From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). Ex: C. D. von Kreber Collection (Copenhagen - 1841) Lot #1249." This two skilling was struck at Copenhagen 1594-96, all with two digit dates. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, where this was struck, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain. One speciedaler was 96 skilling.
