Künker Auction 425, lot 2356

This specimen was lot 2356 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,841 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · KÖNIGLICH DÄNISCHER ANTEIL Christian IV., 1588-1648. Speciestaler 1629, Glückstadt. R Kl. Prägeschwäche, winz. Zainende, kl. Kratzer, sehr schön +. Exemplar der E-Auktion Numisbalt 19, Mai 2022, Nr. 129. (Germany, Danish territory, Christian IV, 1588-1648, speciedaler of 1629, Glückstadt mint. Rare, weakly struck, minor clip, hairlines, very fine or better.)"

This type was struck 1629-30 at the Danish king's mint of Glückstadt in Holstein. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but not particularly successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
