Danzig 1760-REOE 3 grosze KM-104
This specimen was lot 75608 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Danzig. 3 Grosze, 1760. August III (of Poland). ANACS EF-45. Some planchet roughness is observed however original luster in the fields helps to confirm the desirable quality." This type was struck 1758, 1760 and 1763. Off metal strikes exist in silver (KM 111) and gold (KM Pn17). Three grosze made one tenth of a złoty. The denomination was struck until 1766. The obverse shows the king's monogram, "AR3". Augustus III was the third Saxon to be king of Poland but left Polish affairs to his viceroy while he patronized opera in Dresden.
