Danish West Indies 1848 10 skilling
This specimen was lot 30417 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,116.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Danish Colony. Frederik VII 10 Skilling 1848 MS65 NGC, Plain Edge variety. An absolutely striking example with virtually flawless surfaces and appealing silvery patina. Rare, as this is currently the finest known certified example in this premium designation with none graded higher. From The Collection of Dr. Roger R. McFadden." This type was struck in 1848 and again in 1856 but all are dated 1848. The 1856 issue has the plain edge. It is common in circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: 389,000 (KM 20.1) plus 85,000 (KM 20.2).
