Cyprus 1882-H piastre
This specimen was lot 20351 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "CYPRUS. Piastre, 1882-H. PCGS AU-53 BN. THE KEY! The finest graded at PCGS by an incredible 13 point margin, and missing from nearly every collection of the series. Mintage of only 18,000 with virtually all surviving examples showing signs of heavy circulation. An alluring example with generous amounts of remaining detail, especially for the assigned grade, and even brown patination. For collectors of British Commonwealth coinage struck at Heaton, a must have addition." This type, one-ninth of a shilling, was struck in small numbers 1879-1900 with the late subtype dating 1881-1900. It is not rare in low grade tho this date is rare.
Recorded mintage: 18,000.
Specification: bronze.
