Ponterio sale 177, lot 34574

This specimen was lot 34574 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $258. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CYPRUS. 1/2 Piastre, 1879. NGC AU-58 BN." This type, one-eighteenth of a shilling, was struck in small numbers 1879-1900. It is not rare in low grade.

Recorded mintage: 250,000 plus a few proofs.
