This type was struck in 1821 and was preceded by the similar "LIBERTAD AMERICANA" struck 1814 (see KM D3). It is quite a bit scarcer than its larger sister, the 1821-Ba 8 reales and is virtually unobtainable in high grade. No additional half reales were issued until 1833 (KM 88.1).
