Cuba 1953 peso

This type was struck in the United States for Cuba in 1953 to commemorate the centennial of José Martí, hero of Cuban independence. Most did not circulate and the type is common today, trading for little more than bullion. The issue was accompanied by a brass centavo (KM 26), silver 25 centavos (KM 27) and silver fifty centavos (KM 28).

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.
