This type was struck in the United States for Cuba in 1952 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Cuban independence. The type is common today. The issue was accompanied by a silver ten and forty centavos (KM 23, KM 25). The reverse design refers to the site of the battle of San Juan hill, where a tree has grown up thru the debris of war.
