This specimen was lot 3513 in Goldberg sale 62 (Beverly Hills, February 2010), where it sold for $437. The catalog description[1] noted, "Costa Rica. 5 Colones, 1899. National arms. Reverse: Bust of Columbus right. NGC graded MS-62." After dropping the peso in 1897, Costa Rica issued gold two, five, ten and twenty colones during 1897-1900; only the two colones survived until 1928. The twenty colones is scarce but the other denominations are available for a price.

Recorded mintage: 100,000.

Specification: 3.89 g, 0.900 fine gold, .1126 ounce.
