This specimen was lot 20439 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $18,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Central American Republic gold 8 Escudos 1833-F CR, AU Details NGC, edge filing, well-struck features, cleaned at one time with a few tiny natural flan flaws, the "filing" noted by NGC is not visible in the holder and may be a figment of the grader's imagination. Rare type and grade. The Cecil Webster Collection of Costa Rica." This type, listed by the SCWC under the Central American Republic, was minted in Costa Rica 1828-37 and in Guatemala 1824-25 (KM 8). All are rare and expensive.
