This design was struck in Guatemala 1824 (KM 2) and in Costa Rica in 1831 and 1843-45. A similar design with reduced fineness was issued 1846-49 (KM 20a). It is catalogued in the SCWC under the Central American Republic. This date is also known with assayer E. This specimen was lot 72097 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COSTA RICA. 1/2 Real, 1831-F. NGC AU-55. Good strike with light iridescent toning and strong underlying luster. Quite attractive."
