This specimen was lot 71013 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "ARGENTINA. Cordoba. 4 Reales, 1851. Cordoba Mint. PCGS AU-58. Small sunface variety. This wonderfully preserved near-Mint example exhibits strikingly sharp detail and bright, lustrous surfaces. With light handling and wholesome originality, this piece is a true survivor within this often-problematic series. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type is noted for 1846-51. The Cordoba mint issued silver coins in all denominations from ¼ real to the eight reales. Many varieties exist and some are abundant. The SCWC notes large and small sunface varieties for this date and prices them about the same.
