Cordoba 1852 2 reales
This specimen was lot 30011 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cordoba. Republic 2 Reales 1852 MS65 NGC, Cordoba mint. Gem Uncirculated and very rare in this select quality. A spectacular example of this scarce type, with abundant brilliance and truly pristine surfaces throughout. The castle side shows the usual die break but the eye appeal is nothing short of stunning." This two year type nearly always comes weakly struck in the centers; this specimen is typical. The Cordoba mint issued silver coins in all denominations from ¼ real to the eight reales. Many varieties exist and some are abundant.
