The Comoros are an island group in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mozambique and was a longtime French colony until independence in 1975. In 1964, the Paris mint issued a set of denominations for the islands, one, two and five francs in aluminum and ten and twenty francs in aluminum-bronze. The coins are not rare but are less often seen than those of other French colonies such as St. Pierre et Miquelon or French Somaliland.
