The Comoros, an archipelago off the east coast of Africa, was dominated by many foreign powers until attaining independence in 1975. The five centimes coin shown was minted in Paris (with the torch privy mark) in AH1308, or about 1891 AD, during the time that Comoros was a French protectorate. It was accompanied by bronze ten centimes and silver five francs coins.

Recorded mintage: 200,000.
