Colombia 1938 10 centavos
The first specimen was part of lot 42611 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), which sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (3) 10 Centavos, 1934-1952. PCGS MS-63, MS-64, & MS-66, all Gold Shields. ...1938/11 MS-64, sharply struck with attractive toning; ...From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This ten centavos was struck in Bogotá of a type issued 1911-20 and 1934-42. This type, with the portrait of hero Simon Bolivar, superseded the liberty head type last struck in 1897. The date is fairly common. It includes 1938/7, wide and narrow dates and without mintmark (shown here). The 1938/11 overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC.
