Colombia 1931-B 50 centavos
The first specimen was part of lot 44465 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (3) 50 Centavos, 1907, 1922 & 1931. Various Mints. MS-62, MS-64, & MS-65 (PCGS). 3 pieces in lot. Stellar group lot of top graded coins and interesting minor varieties. ...1931-B P/E in "REPUBLICA" with minor re-engraving in remainder of legend, at MS-65 is the only uncirculated example graded by PCGS, none graded as fine at NGC, satiny luster and some peripheral russet toning. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." The second specimen was part of lot 44481 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (6) 50 Centavos, 1931 & 1932. Various Mints. EF-40, AU-53, AU-55, AU-58 (2), & Unc Detail--Cleaned (PCGS). ...1931, 1931-B, ...Restrepo type 414 and 415. From blast white to moderately gray toned. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck at Bogota 1914-22, 1931-33 with a profusion of varieties and overdates. For this date, a rare variety without the "B" mintmark is noted.
