This type was struck at Medellin 1924-30. It and the matching 2½ pesos replaced the "minero" type issued 1913-19. It is among the last gold coins issued in Colombia for circulation. Many varieties exist of the date and mintmark. The first specimen was lot 2213 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $293.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Colombia. 5 Pesos, 1925 (Medellin) NGC MS63. Small head of Bolivar right. Reverse: Arms. NGC graded MS-63."
Recorded mintage: 668,000.
Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW (same standard as a British sovereign).
