Colombia 1886-M 20 centavos
This specimen was lot 44428 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1886 20 Centavos. Medellín mint. AU Detail — Cleaned (PCGS). A significant rarity in this series, a one year type and the only 20 Centavos struck in 0.500 fineness. Even golden toning over natural and original surfaces. Some very trivial hairlines are seen, but the overall eye appeal is excellent for the grade. An important date, the key to the series. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck 1886 only and superseded the type of 1882-85 which was 0.835 fine.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce. Varieties exist.
Specification: 5 g, 0.500 fine silver.
