Colombia 1862-B peso
The first specimen was lot 42449 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1862 Peso. Bogotá mint. AU-55 (PCGS). Thorough luster persists over golden gray surfaces, highlighted by untoned brilliance around design elements. Natural in appearance, choice, and very satisfying to examine. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." The second specimen was lot 44239 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1862 Peso. Bogotá mint. EF-40 (PCGS). Even glossy dark gray with some peeks of pale blue around reverse devices. A choice coin, from the Norweb Collection. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." The specimen shown is a peso from the Bogotá mint, one of a type struck 1862-67 while the country was known as the "Estados Unidos de Colombia." The design was changed to a liberty head style in 1868-71, after which the silver peso was dropped in favor of fifty centavos. The type is not rare but scarce in nice condition.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
