Colombia 1860-P 10 pesos
This specimen was lot 12218 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1860 10 Pesos. Popayán mint. AU-55 (PCGS). Frosty pale yellow gold, highly lustrous and a bit reflective at the peripheries. A tiny lamination fleck is noted at the crown of the portrait's head, another on the reverse at 129. A very attractive specimen, showing little actual wear. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Pat Johnson, January 1977." This type was struck at Bogotá (Fr-88) 1859-61 and Popayan (shown here) 1858-62. While not cheap, it is considerably more available than the five pesos.
