The specimen shown is a peso from the Bogotá mint, one of a type struck 1855-59 while the country was known as "Nueva Granada." The design was changed 1859-61 to read "Granadine Confederation." The specimen shown here is dated 1857. There exists one known overdate, that of 1857/6. The first example shown was lot 8182 in Ponterio sale 160 (Baltimore, April 2011) where it sold for $138. The catalog description read, "COLOMBIA. Peso, 1857. Bogotá mint. Toned. NGC EF-40."

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .7234 troy oz ASW.
