Colombia 1850-B 10 reales
This specimen was lot 1037 in Goldberg sale 46 (Beverly Hills, May 2008), where it sold for $2,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Colombia - Republica de la Nueva Granada. 10 Reales, 1850 (Bogotá). Second condor type. Tripartite shield of arms surmounted by condor with wreath, supporting crossed flags behind. Reverse: Circular wreath with value within; purity below. Excellent and nearly a full strike. The fields fairly clean, and showing fine shimmering cartwheel luster. Light, slightly warm toning. NGC graded MS-63."
This type was struck 1850-51 and is scarce but not rare in circulated condition. It is the second type struck to this standard; the first being KM 107, struck 1847-48. It was replaced by a silver peso (KM 118) struck 1855-59 which is quite a bit more available.
