This specimen was lot 12172 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1848-RS 16 Pesos. Bogotá mint. AU-53 (PCGS). Frosty light yellow gold with a good deal of luster for the assigned grade. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Regazzoli, Mexico, April 1970." This type, struck at Bogotá 1837-49, replaced the earlier eight escudos (KM 82.1) and is identical in size and weight. It was also produced at Popayán. Assayer RS is listed for 1828-49.
