This specimen was lot 30458 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1826 Bogotá-JF, AU Details (Obverse Spot Removed) NGC. An early Republic type with well-struck surfaces that hold attractive reddish-copper patina along the peripheries. Once cleaned, but still rather appealing." This type was struck at Popayán 1822-36 and at Bogotá 1822-38. It was superseded by the quasi-decimal sixteen pesos issued at both mints 1837-49. Both types are common enough that some attempt to collect complete date sets.
