Colombia 1824B 8 escudos rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck at Popayán 1822-36 and at Bogotá 1822-38. It was superseded by the quasi-decimal sixteen pesos issued at both mints 1837-49. Both types are common enough that some attempt to collect complete date sets but nice specimens like the Eliasberg specimen are, as always, seldom seen. The specimen shown here is of average quality.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz.

Catalog reference: KM 82.1.
