This specimen was lot 20758 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1815JF Nuevo Reino, AU55 NGC, very nice patina with underlying luster, quite appealing." Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JF is recorded for 1808-1820. Overdates abound, including an 1815/4.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
