This specimen was lot 44065 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1657-NRo PoR. Bogota Mint. Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Salt Water Damage, VF Details. Undoubtedly a sea-salvaged example due to its lighter weight and saltwater damage, this RARE cob issue nonetheless retains a fully legible date along with many other key features. Despite its drawbacks, this piece maintains an undeniable rustic charm and high level of desirability among specialists in the Colombian series. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." This type was issued from Bogotá intermittently 1651-65 and all dates are listed as "Rare" in the SCWC. Assayer POR is known for 1651-69.
