Sedwick sale 27. lot 28

This specimen was lot 28 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $1,666. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, cob 2 escudos, (16)49, assayer R below denomination II to right. Broad-flan AU with encrustation in crevices (unspecified salvage), 100% full king's name, full shield and cross, curious shear-mark (as made) on part of edge." This type was struck 1628-55 for Philip IV. Most survivors lack legible dates and therefore many dates are unlisted (including the 1649) altho the Santa Fé mint probably operated continuously during that period.
