Sincona sale 70, lot 3392

This specimen was lot 3392 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 30,000 CHF (about US$39,816 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Grisons | Chur, Bistum. Johann Anton von Federspiel, 1755-1777. Dukat 1767, Chur. Ovales Wappen auf gekröntem Wappenmantel. Rv. Madonna mit Kind und Zepter auf Wolken, darunter die Jahreszahl. Äusserst selten. NGC MS62. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, bishopric of Chur, Johann Anton von Federspiel, 1755-77, ducat of 1767, Chur mint. Obverse: Mantled, oval arms; reverse: Madonna and Child with a scepter on a cloud, date below. Extremely rare, uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This episcopal ducat is rare even by Swiss standards and was the last coin issued by the bishop. The city also issued minor coinage but ceased about the same time.
